Independent review of Wired- By Chris Cox Independent review of Wired- By Chris Cox- keen amateur body builder I'm a big believer in pre-workout stimulant drinks, and I\'m only too aware how difficult it can be to obtain an effective pre-workout drink that isn\'t packed with dreaded carbs. In the past I\'ve tried SAN V12 Turbo, BSN No-Xplode and MRM Driven but have never been fully satisfied with any of these products. V12 I thought was ineffective, No-Xplode was effective but unfortunately was far too sharply flavoured for my taste and actually gave me heartburn during training and Driven was also effective, but very poorly flavoured. So it was with excitement that I opened my shipment of PhD Wired and PhD L-Glutamine this morning when they promptly arrived within 20 hours of ordering them. The packaging is in line with all of the PhD products, minimalistic and very classy with a pharmaceutical edge to it. I unscrewed the container, eager to smell the Orange and Pineapple, hoping that it wasn\'t going to be painfully sharp or synthetic tasting... And I certainly wasn't disappointing. Fruity, with a very natural feel to it without being overpowering. I was tempted to have a taste despite it being over 8 hours until my workout, but managed to hold the anticipation and wait for 4:30pm to roll around... I had my last solid meal at 2:30pm, which was 100g chicken, a spoon of Udo\'s and 300g broccoli and by 4:30pm it was time to mix my pre-workout Wired. I\'m delighted to report that Wired mixes effortlessly, being a powder of very fine quality with a powdered consistency just a little finer than the excellent PhD Pharma Whey. The entire PhD range never ceases to impress me with the fine quality of the powder, no clumps or unevenness. Just very fine quality powder. Since I fall in to the heavier bracket of Wired user, weighing in at 95Kg at the moment, I dutifully mixed in one and a half scoops of Wired in to my shaker along with 200ml of chilled mineral water. Adding in 10g PhD L-Glutamine for good measure, I screwed the top back on my shaker and prepared the concoction Wired tastes fantastic. Easily the most pleasing pre-workout drink I\'ve ever had the fortune to taste, and delivering only 6.5g carbs, with only 0.6g of those as sugar makes the flavour all the more amazing. I\'m not quite sure how the guys at PhD managed it, but Wired tastes exceptionally good. Very much like a fruit drink, not at all synthetic or acrid and as I\'ve mentioned before, very natural tasting. Wired also delivers 5g Creatine Monohydrate, 200mg caffeine, 125mg valine, 125mg iso-leucine, 125mg leucine (three of the eight essential amino acids), 8.3g protein, 6.5g carbs, 7.5g dietary fibre amongst many other nutrients. All of this, a great taste and only 57 calories per serving if you\'re mixing it for an individual over 80kg. Today, I was actually feeling very fatigued by the time 4:30pm rolled around. I\'ve been dieting now for about 8 weeks, and I\'ve not missed a single cardio session or days training in that time. I\'m presently weight training 7 days a week and performing cardio for 45 minutes every morning. Today I have to confess I was tempted, after a poor night’s sleep, a long day at work and the prospect of some heavy dead lifting to lope off home and relax for the night. Fortunately, my PhD shipment arrived at just the right time, and I couldn\'t squander the chance to see how effective Wired was going to be when faced with the prospect of me potentially being a pussy and crying off of training. It's a 20 minute drive to the Gym, and as I left work I was still feeling slightly tired and a little jaded. Fortunately, the combination of my serving of Wired and listening to a Prodigy CD on the way there worked synergistically and I bounced in to the Gym ready to smash up my back and abs as Fivos would say. My session went brilliantly. No indigestion, jitters, rumbling stomach or constant need for the toilet like I\'ve experienced with other pre-workout supplements, just pure, undiluted mental and physical focus. After six sets of heavy (for me) dead lifts maxing out with a final set of six good reps with 180Kg, I moved on to some bent over rows, super setted with some wide grip chins. Wired didn\'t fail me in the slightest, I retained my focus and vigour throughout the entire workout, culminating in one of the best back and ab session I think I\'ve ever had (Obviously I did more than just dead\'s, rows and chins, but I won\'t bore you with the details!). I had a great pump throughout my workout, felt sharp, focused and in the zone from start to finish. I think Wired just became my new best friend. Cheers, |
